Outreach

The focus of Bethesda’s Outreach Program is to help break the cycle of child sexual abuse. Bethesda’s Outreach Coordinator has created special presentations to help reach that goal.

Bethesda has presentations designed to fit any age, group or need. We welcome the opportunity to bring our presentations to your school, day care, church, civic group or other community groups.

Our children’s presentation, “Bethesda Abuse Safety Heroes,” uses age appropriate games, handout materials, books and videos to help demonstrate the concept of personal space and healthy relationships.

As the groups of children increase in age, the materials and techniques graduate to age-appropriate demonstration tools. The older children also develop their own skills of self-protection and expressions and feeling of self-worth. Each child is given an award, which serves as a reminder of the lessons learned during the presentation.

In our adult presentation, participants gain skills to recognize sexual abuse and instruction on how to address these issues when identified in the children with whom they are associated. During the presentations, the participants receive informational material on identifying signs of sexual abuse, handling the sexually abused child, reporting child sexual abuse, and prevention of sexual abuse.
