Knight School is a psycho-educational program fashioned after the “Knights of the Roundtable” and growth from “serfdom” to “knighthood.” Knight School is designed to meet and address the needs of 6-18 year old boys victimized by sexual abuse.
These young men tend to be highly anxious, very active, and often reactive. They may be angry, violent, or express their pain in a very physical manner, sometimes appearing to be ADHD. Others may cope with their experience in a more internalized manner, presenting as withdrawn and depressed.
This program incorporates psychological, developmental, educational aspects into a "hands-on" process approach that utilizes varied learning styles and multiple intelligences to address therapeutic goals. These goals include, but are not limited to: increasing emotional stability, decreasing self-blame, developing positive and safe support systems, understanding physical and emotional triggers, anger management, body awareness, and appropriate boundaries.
Boys attend Knight School weekly. They may be seen through group and/or individual sessions. The final goal is to assist in prevention and decrease chances for further victimization, providing these boys with the tools to live safe and happy lives.
